I thought I'd lost this! I think it was after that awful business with the radio I went looking for it. It's one thing to see the bad news on here but to hear this idiotic business over these things but now it's taken to being on the radio all the time. I'm tempted to smash the thing but I have something in the background of my mind (sounds a lot like Mum) about wasting what you're privileged enough to own so I won't. She'd kill me. And she's scarier than any terrorist movement when she's pissed angry.
I keep having recurring dreams of mythological stories I read growing up. I wish I'd taken Divination now, because sleep is in such short suppy everywhere that the last thing everyone needs is the next generation of people responsible for the wider health of the wizarding world starting to fall asleep at their desks. However, I can't seem to take my own advice and relax.
I made the stupid mistake of starting to read to put me to sleep. Next thing I knew, it was four this morning. I've never been so glad it's Friday.

Something occurred to me yesterday when looking at physical side effects of every day spells. I could be wrong, but the mental state that someone is required to be in to cast a curse of the darkest origins (like the Killing Curse) can't possibly be healthy. I don't have a better suggestion, beyond finding a way to just knock people out even if they are using a shield charm, but developing something like that could have nasty ramifications. I'm not sure if those ramifications are better or worse than what Unforgivables may do to everyone involved. I don't envy the people who brought this up, but I really don't kind of agree either.
It's bad for the person who casts it as well as the person it's being cast upon. Do we know what effect that'll have on their ability with magic? The war is very intense and has gone on for some time - using Unforgivables with frequency may have a damaging effect. I'm not going to lose much sleep worrying about the people who use it for pleasure, but if we're having people train to do this, I think we have to consider whether their mental and magical health as a possible casualty of war is worth what lives they may or may not save by casting those curses. Is there really not another alternative?

That was a bit of pessimistic start to proceedings. What happened to just saying "Happy New Year"?

The wireless broadcast reminded me of the times I used to say it was perfectly fine for me to hex my brother because he did that hex first, which means it's okay that I did it because as the first one to do it, he was clearly accountable.
Anyway, I don't understand. I thought the point of Unforgivables was that you had to mean it. You had to truly desire to kill, to hurt or to control without a thought for the person involved. Call me an optimist, but I thought the DMLE was made up of people who didn't have a desire to do any of that. For that matter, I'm not sure it's something you can learn and I'm positive it's not something you should ever want to learn. It seems like the kind of thing that might be a bit dicey if, when this whole mess is finally over, you can't stop doing it or you do it by accident? Bloody scary thought if you ask me. I really hope this doesn't backfire. We've got enough injured people coming in without half-Unforgivabled people coming along. Can someone be half-Unforgivabled or is it just going to be a bunch of Aurors going around with tissues up their nose from nose bleeds?
